The Prairie basketball team won with their defense as they beat Clearwater Valley 43-34 in a league game at Kooskia Thursday, January 11. It was a good thing their defense was strong because they struggled offensively as they led C.V. 6-5 at the end of the first quarter and 16-14 at halftime. They came out in the third quarter though and doubled their score as they outscored the Rams 16-7 to take control of the game. Tyler Forsmann had his high game of the season as he led the Pirates with 16 points and added 8 rebounds. David Sigler added 12 points while Corey Schaeffer scored 6, Nate Kaschmitter 4, J.D. Riener 3 and Ryan Daly 2. C.V. didn’t have anybody score in double figures as Colton Summerfelt led them in scoring with 9 points. Prairie also won the JV game by a score of 37-25. Pirates win at Deary The Prairie Pirates outscored Deary 19-7 in the first quarter and went on to beat the Mustangs 65-36 at Deary Saturday, January 13. Prairie led 30-17 at the half and 44-26 after 3 quarters. The Pirates’ defense limited the Mustangs to just 29% shooting and got 22 points from Corey Schaeffer who had three 3-pointers. David Sigler added 14 points while Tyler Forsmann scored 10. J.D. Riener added 8 points, Nate Kaschmitter 5, Kyle Daly 4 and Ryan Daly 2. Ryan Daly led the team in rebounds with 9. With the win Prairie improves to 2-1 in league play and 9-4 overall. Prairie also won the JV game but no score was available.
