SMHC offers sports physicals
The St. Mary’s Hospital Clinics will be holding their Sports Physical clinics at their clinics..  The Cottonwood Clinic will hold theirs on Wednesday, June 6 and the Nezperce clinic has scheduled their clinic on Monday, June 4th.  The Kamiah Medical Clinic will be offering their annual program on Monday, June 11th.  Check in time at each clinic will be from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.   No appointments are necessary. . . .

PMS Science Fair winners are named
Prairie Middle School held a Science Fair on May 22nd.   5th and 6th grade students participated in the Mars Rover program on May 5th  and some of the students displayed their rovers as Science Fair projects.  7th and 8th grade students displayed a variety of  projects expressing their understanding of Physical, Biological, and Chemical Science..   Thank you to Bruce Nuxoll, Rhonda Wemhoff, and Greg Deiss for judging the projects. . . .

Summit Academy news
* Summit Academy will have their largest graduating class yet when 7 seniors go through commencement ceremonies this Friday, June 1. . . .
* Friday, May 25, the Kindergarteners and 8th graders graduated from Summit Academy.  The students processed in together, one 8th grader with two kindergarteners.  The 8th graders then took a front seat in the audience while the kindergarteners headed up onto the stage. . . .
* Last Wednesday evening at Summit Academy, May 23, the 7th – 12th graders impressed the audience by displaying the knowledge they have received this school year.  One teacher after another came to the podium with loads of questions from every subject, while two by two, the students came to the microphone to answer each one of those questions. . . .

38 graduates flipped their tassels after receiving their diplomas last Friday evening.

The back row group, the Stars of Mars received the best lab noteboock award while the front row Space Rebels received the best post display and best poster presentation awards.


Kindergartners spent time in Mrs. Schu's room this week sharing poetry. Pictured in the top photo are Madison Hinkelman with Abbie Uhlenkott and in the bottom photo Spencer Schumacher with Bryson Higgins. 


On May 17th, 3rd graders from Prairie Elementary School headed to Pine Bar for a field trip hosted by Lynn, Jeremy, and Evan from the Cottonwood field office of the Bureau of Land Management. While enjoying the sun, the students learned about campsite care, water safety, plants (the good, the bad, and the ugly), and keeping Idaho clean by not littering. It was a wonderful afternoon complete with cookies and juice! 3rd grade teachers, Mrs. Zenner and Mrs. Schumacher, would like to extend a big thank you to Maureen Munger and Cindy Higgins, parent volunteers, Rick Johnson, bus driver, and the Cottonwood field office of the BLM. Lynn, Jeremy, and Evan planned a great afternoon of learning!! 

Several school retirees were honored with a cake and social last week. From left are Stan Kress, John Nida, Lynn Gehring, Carol Schmidt, Dave Snodgrass and Duane Uhlenkott.


Two fourth grade teams from Prairie Elementary went to Craigmont on May 23 to compete in the History Bee.   The students have been studying Idaho History this year.   Kamiah, C.V., Nezperce, Craigmont, Summit and Prairie competed in the contest.   The teams  were asked questions about Idaho and its history.   After a closely contested battle, Kamiah was declared the winner.  Both Prairie teams were awarded medals for placing in the History Bee. In the top photo from left are Stellina Laurino, Jessica Riener, Whitney Sonnen,Beth Dinning, Laurel Henry and Emily McHugh . In the lower photo from left are Holli Uhlorn, Kirstin Latimer, Lucas Arnzen, Dallas Frei and Dally Ratcliff.

Merannda Chaffee entered a poetry contest and had her poem published in the Western Edition of Celebrate! Young Poets Speak Out - Fall 2006 edition. Her poem, title “Animal”  appears on page 307 of the book and is as follows: “The animal. . .has senses we are losing. Living by voices we will never hear. They’re not brothers, they’re not underlings, they’re another nation.” She is an 8th grader at Prairie Middle School and is the daughter of Kevin and Shari Chaffee.
