Pirates lose in four at Lapwai
In a White Pine League match at Lapwai, the Prairie Lady Pirates lost in 4 games 18-25, 25-18, 11-25, 17-25 Tuesday, Sept. 11. The first game was close early but a 7 point service run by Lapwai put the Wildcats in control. Prairie managed to get to within 3 points at 16-19 and 17-20 but Lapwai held on for the win. In the second game Prairie fell behind 1-4 but fought back to a 4-4 tie. The game went back and forth for awhile as it was tied again at 7, 8, 9 and 10. Prairie finally took the lead at 11-10 on a kill by Sam Frei. Prairie extended the lead on an ace by Alli Holthaus followed by a kill by Tiffany Schaeffer and a stuff block by Chelsey Long. The lead stayed at 3 to 5 points until Kim Schaeffer went to the service line at 22-17. She served 2 aces to make it 24-17. Lapwai then scored a side out but a kill by Tiffany Schaeffer gave Prairie the win to tie the match at 1 game each. Unfortunately Prairie couldn’t take any momentum from that win into the third game as Lapwai had service runs of 3 and 6 points to build a 5-15 lead on their way to an easy win. In the fourth game Prairie again fell behind early 1-6 and never got any closer than 3 points the rest of the game. For the match Tiffany Schaeffer had 12 kills including 2 stuff blocks and also had 2 aces. Kaylee Uhlenkott had 8 kills and 2 aces. Kim Schaeffer had 5 kills and 4 aces and Sam Frei had 5 kills and 2 aces. Brooke Holthaus had 4 kills and 3 aces while Chelsey Long had 4 kills including a stuff and 4 aces. Alli Holthaus had 16 assists and 2 aces while Brianne Stubbers had 11 assists. The loss drops Prairie to 1-5 on the season and 1-2 in league play. The JV team also lost as Lapwai beat them 12-25, 19-25, 15-6. Prairie took a 3-1 lead in the first game on a kill by Kayla Johnson followed by 2 aces from Jennifer Enneking but Lapwai came back to take the lead at 3-4 before missing a serve. Lapwai then scored the sideout and never trailed again in the game. The game was still close at 7-9 when Lapwai started a run of 9 straight points which included 5 aces. In the second game Prairie again took the early lead as Enneking served Prairie to a 5-0 lead with 4 aces and a kill by Kayla Johnson. A pair of aces by Amber Frei and 3 by Francesca Johnson helped Prairie stay in the lead as they still lead 18-14 late in the match. From there though it was all Lapwai as they outscored Prairie 1-11 with Prairie’s only point coming on a kill by Kayla Johnson. Lapwai’s final 5 points came on aces. In the third game Prairie salvaged a win thanks to the strong serving of Samantha Johnson. The game was 8-6 when she took over at the service line and she managed to serve out the game. She started off with 3 straight aces then her sister Francesca scored a kill as her spike hit the top of the net and then tumbled down the Lapwai side. An ace by Samantha, another kill by Francesca and a final ace by Samantha ended the game in Prairie’s favor. Lady Pirates beat Highland in 4 games The Prairie Lady Pirates picked up their second win of the season as they beat Highland in a non-league match at Cottonwood 25-17, 25-21, 15-25, 25-14. Brianne Stubbers and Alli Holthaus had 14 assists each in the match while Kim Schaeffer and Kaylee Uhlenkott had 6 kills each. With the win Prairie improves to 2-5 overall. Lady Pirates swept by Kamiah The Prairie Lady Pirates were lost in 3 games at Kamiah Monday, Sept. 17 in non-league volleyball action. The scores were 13-25, 16-25, 16-25. The loss drops them to 2-5 on the season. The JV and C teams also lost with the JV’s losing 13-25, 24-26 and the C team losing 18-25, 19-25.
