high-speed Internet service now available in Cottonwood
Qwest Communications International Inc. announced last Thursday that high-speed Internet service is now available in Cottonwood. Cottonwood is among more than 50 Idaho communities that will have received Qwest high-speed Internet service during the past two years as a result of broadband matching grants approved by the legislature. “Small towns like Cottonwood have been waiting a long time for the kind of affordable broadband access Qwest is now deploying in our communities," said State Rep. Paul Shepherd, who represents the area. "It is a huge boost for business owners and residents in rural communities to be able to enjoy the same advanced technology that is available in larger towns." With Qwest High-Speed Internet service, residents and businesses in Cottonwood can experience a high-speed broadband connection that provides them with immediate access to the Internet and speeds up to 125 times faster than dial-up. Qwest is currently offering high-speed Internet service starting as low as $26.99. Qwest also outperformed its broadband competitors and now ranks highest in customer satisfaction among high-speed Internet service providers (ISPs) in the West region, as measured by J.D. Power and Associates. With the state’s broadband matching program, Qwest will have invested more than $7.5 million to make the latest broadband technology available in rural areas. The state’s broadband matching fund has made it possible for Qwest to expand its high-speed Internet service to more sparsely populated areas, said Jim Schmit, Qwest’s president for Idaho. “The state should be applauded for helping make these investments possible,” Schmit said.
