SMHC
issues reminder for food and exercise classes
The free ‘Healthy Me’ classes sponsored by St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics will be offered next week Monday through Wednesday, January 14 through 16th in the Cottonwood Medical Clinic Reception area from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. “It’s that time of year when we have a lot of resolve to live a healthier lifestyle so we’ve designed a series of classes to help us reach our goals,” said Becky Ewing, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator. “The classes are for everyone regardless of age or fitness level. We’ve combined information on both exercise and nutrition.” Ewing is the presenter for the first class on January 14th with a focus on food. The second class on January 15th will be taught by Don Murphy, SMHC Physical Therapist. It will cover exercise and include information on how much is necessary, modifications for different ages and current research results. The third and final session on January 16th will feature Ewing who will talk about meal preparation, grocery shopping for healthy items, reading food labels and setting long and short term goals. There is no cost for the classes. Registration is encouraged to estimate the amount of materials, but is not necessary. To register call SMH, 962-3251. “We plan on having lots of fun in the classes while learning new things. I hope people bring their questions and concerns,” said Ewing. “I’m hoping participants will plan on attending all three, but if they can only make it to one or two, that’s fine, also.”
