Three earn medals at Orofino Tournament
James Jackson, Michael Matson and Jake Wimer each came away with a medal at the Orofino Wrestling Tournament held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 11-12.
Jackson was second in the 152 lb. bracket while Matson was third at 160 lbs. and Wimer was third at 171 lbs.
Friday’s wrestling was for seeding for Saturday’s brackets. Following are results of the bracketed portion of the tournament:
At 152 lbs., Jackson won by pin over Cody Brown of Potlatch in 1:57 then outlasted 2nd seeded Zane Earl of Clarkston to win 8-5. In the championship match he first #1 seeded Cameron Hagen of Kamiah and lost 0-10 to finish second.
At 160 lbs. Matson lost his first round match to eventual champion John Merickel of Moscow by pin in 1:18. In the consolation bracket he defeated Danny Randles of Clarkston by pin in 1:50 then won by forfeit over Les Wright of Kamiah who was injured in his semifinal match. In the consolation final Matson won by decision over Zach Irby of Orofino 8-6 to earn third place.
At 171 lbs. Wimer wasted no time in his first match as he pinned Jake Schell of Union in 37 seconds. In his second match he faced top seeded Casey Garland of Orofino and lost by pin in 4:55. In the consolation semifinals Wimer pinned Jordan McGreal of Potlatch in 3:51 to advance to the consolation finals. There he faced Chris Tweedy of Potlatch and won by pin in 3:27.
At 135 lbs. Brandon Poxleitner lost his first round match by pin in 59 seconds to Slade Jacobs of Kamiah. He was then eliminated by Zack Justesen of Sherman who pinned him in 2:46.
Also at 135 lbs., in the B bracket, Sheldon Klinkefus was eliminated after two matches. He lost by pin to Aaron Barr of Orofino in 22 seconds then lost by pin to Justin Heater of Kamiah in 55 seconds.
At 189 lbs. Chance Ratcliff lost his first round match to Nick King of Clarkston who pinned him in 1:32. In the consolation bracket Ratcliff won by pin over Cody Chase of Clarkston in 2:31 then was eliminated in the consolation semifinals by Jesse Wise of Grant Union who pinned him in 59 seconds.
At heavyweight Mitchel Jungert lost by pin in 1:12 to Devin Norland of Clarkston then was eliminated by Bryan Cummins of Potlatch who pinned him in 1:40.
Next action for the Prairie Wrestling team is a dual meet at Grangeville this Thursday, Jan. 17.

Wrestling White Out Night
Feeling lucky???  Come and support your Prairie wrestlers on January 24th by wearing white and you could also be a winner.
$50 will be donated by the Prairie Booster Club and given to a lucky spectator with the winning program.  Three gift certificates will also be awarded.   So if you have not been to a match yet now is the time to attend and support the Pirate Wrestlers!

Challenge to Pirate Fans
This is a challenge to Pirate fans. On Thursday, Jan. 24, at 6 p.m. there will be a home wrestling match at the high school gym.
If you have never been to a wrestling match, here is your chance to attend one and benefit the Booster Club. If the Pirate fans can fill the lower bleachers for the match, A-1 Flowers & More will donate $100 to the Prairie Booster Club. This is also Senior Night and the Booster Club’s White Out The Gym night (see story elsewhere in this week’s Chronicle). So dress in white and let’s fill the bleachers!
