win big at Culdesac
Ronnie Chandler hit a grand slam homer while Kyle Holthaus tossed a 4-hitter as Prairie routed Culdesac 19-3 in 6 innings Thursday, March 20 at Culdesac. Prairie pounded out 19 hits on offense as 8 different players collected at least 1 hit in the contest. Prairie picked up a run in the top of the second and then came up with 7 runs in the third. They added 2 more in the fourth to take a 10-0 lead but Culdesac came back in the bottom of the fourth with 3 of their 4 hits, including a home run, to put 3 runs on the board. In the top of the sixth Joe Schumacher led off the inning with his third hit of the game, a home run. That seemed to ignite the Pirates as they came up with 9 runs including Chandler’s slam, which accounted for 4 of them. Holthaus had 13 strikeouts in addition to allowing just 4 hits and 3 runs. Four different Pirates had 3 hits in the game with Holthaus having a single, double and triple, Chandler and Schumacher a homer and 2 singles each and Steven Baerlocher 2 doubles and a single. Eric Daly had a double and single while Conner Rieman and Tyler Rogers had 2 singles each and Silas Whitley added a single. With the win Prairie takes a 2-1 record into spring break and they are now 1-0 in league play.
