Feast
of St. Gertrude of Helfta FREE Concert
As part of the 2008 - 2009 Centennial celebration of “100 Years ‘at Home’ in Idaho” the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood, Idaho is hosting a series of free concerts entitled “TRADITIONS SHAPING TOMORROW” – a celebration of our friends in music and story; honoring Benedictine traditions of the past; celebrating present traditions at St. Gertrude’s and featuring local and regional musicians. The second concert in the series will be held on the Feast of St. Gertrude of Helfta, Sunday November 16, 2008 from 2:30 - 4:00 PM in the monastery chapel. This event honors the faculty and students of the former St. Gertrude's Academy (SGA – the sisters’ Catholic High School for 42 years), and St. Gertrude of Helfta – patroness of the monastery and SGA, author, spiritual director. The concert features former SGA students and faculty from the Camas Prairie area as well cities in the Northwest singing hits from today and yesterday. The concert will open with a brief presentation about the traditions and values of St. Gertrude, and how the sisters express these traditions and values today. “We hope many of our former Academy students will be in attendance,” said Sr. Angela Uhlorn, former SGA Music Director. “There will be audience participation in some of the songs. Come and enjoy the music and fun!” For more information about the concert please contact Sr. Angela at 208-962-5064 or e-mail angelauhlorn@hotmail.com.
