Lady Pirates swamp Timberline on Senior Night
The Prairie Lady Pirates rolled to an easy win on senior night Tuesday, Jan. 20 as they beat Timberline 53-19.Kaylee Uhlenkott looks to get a shot up past Timberline's 6'2 Lundyn Jared.
Prairie’s defense forced 11 first quarter turnovers and held the Spartans to just 6 shot attempts as they jumped out to a 13-2 lead.
They increased the lead to 28-4 in the second quarter before Timberline put together any kind of scoring run as they closed the half with 5 straight points to make it 28-9 at the break.
Prairie had runs of 11-0 and 13-0 in the half.
7 different players scored in the first half led by Jennifer Enneking who had 9 points.
In the third quarter the scoring load fell to Kaylee Uhlenkott who scored the first 9 of Prairie’s 11 third quarter points. 
Timberline trailed 39-15 after 3 quarters. They scored the first point of the fourth quarter but Prairie then went on a 14-0 run.
Seniors Uhlenkott and Enneking led the scoring with 16 and 14 points respectively while Megan Sigler and NaTosha Schaeffer scored 8 each. Kara Guyer and Amber Holthaus scored 2 each and Mary Shears scored 1.
Uhlenkott had a double-double as she also led in rebounding with 12 although Timberline held a 38-49 advantage on te boards.
Enneking and Guyer had 4 steals each as Prairie forced the Spartans into 25 turnovers while committing just 8.Enneking had 3 assists while Holthaus and Sigler had 2 each.
Prairie was 20 for 58 from the field, 34%, and 8 for 14 at the line, 57%. Timberline was just 6 for 40 from the field, 15%, and 6 for 18 at the line, 33%.
Prairie also had little trouble in the JV game as they won 41-21.
The game was close for a little while as it was 6-5 at the 3:47 mark of the first quarter. A basket by Haleigh Schmidt and a 3-pointer by Francesca Johnson in the next Jennifer Enneking makes a lay-up against Timberline.40 seconds though sparked Prairie to a 15-7 lead by the end of the quarter.
Prairie then opened the second quarter with 8 straight points to push the lad to 23-7.
Timberline closed the half on a 0-6 run to cut the lead to 23-13.
They couldn’t carry that momentum into the third quarter though as Schmidt stepped up for Prairie by hitting 4 of 5 shots including a 3-pointer as Prairie outscored the Spartans 11-3 in the period to take a 34-16 lead.
Betty Clark then scored 4 points in the fourth as Prairie outscored Timberline 7-5 in the final period.
Schmidt wound up with 15 points to lead the scoring while Francesca Johnson scored 9, Kayla Johnson 8 and Clark 4. MaKayla Schaeffer and Monica Lustig scored 2 each and Meghan Bruner scored 1.
Timberline controlled the boards 35-51. Schaeffer led Prairie with 7 while Lustig and Kayla Johnson added 6 each.
Schmidt had 5 steals and Schaeffer and Bruner had 2 assists each.
Prairie forced Timberline into 32 turnovers.
The JV’s were 17 for 50 from the field, 34%, and 5 for 16 at the line, 31%. Timberline was 6 for 42 from the field, 14%, and 7 for 17 at the line, 41%.

Lady Pirates lose to Grangeville
In their final home game of the season the Prairie Lady Pirates couldn’t take advantage of an off shooting night by Grangeville as they lost 35-51 Thursday, Jan. 22.
Grangeville hit just 29% of their shots compared to a 50% effort in their previous win over Prairie but the Pirates couldn’t crack the Grangeville defense enough times to pull out the win.
Jennifer Enneking tried to keep Prairie close with three 3-pointers and 15 points. 
Kaylee Uhlenkott added 8 points while Megan Sigler scored 3, Kristi Poxleitner, Amber Holthaus and Kara Guyer 2 each and NaTosha Schaeffer, Mary Shears and Alena Hoene 1 each.
The JV squad also lost to the Bulldogs 33-59.

Lady Pirates comeback from slow start to win
The Prairie Lady Pirates completed their White Pine League schedule with a win over Lewis County at Craigmont Friday, Jan. 23, 39-26.
They won despite the fact their offense showed up for only the final 3 quarters.NaTosha Schaeffer stole the ball and drove for a lay-up late in the first half against Lewis County. Behind her is Amber Holthaus.
It took Prairie 7:59.7 to get on the scoreboard in the game as Lewis County took a 0-11 lead. Kara Guyer connected on the second of 2 free throws with 0.3 seconds left on the clock in the first quarter to get Prairie on the board.
Prairie was 0 for 11 from the field in the quarter and 1 for 4 at the line.
It didn’t take near as long to score in the second quarter though as Megan Sigler swished a 15 footer from the baseline just 17 seconds into the second quarter. 
After a Lewis County score, she added another basket on a short bank shot then Kaylee Uhlenkott took over the game.
Uhlenkott missed all 4 shots she took in the first quarter but was 9 for 9 from the second quarter on, her only 2 misses both being taken off the books by fouls.
She hit a 12 foot jumper then stole the ball and converted the lay-up to cut the Eagles’ lead to 9-13.
After an Eagles basket she drove the baseline for a lay-up and got fouled, converting the free throw to cut the lead to 3.
Lewis County answered with a pair of free throws but Uhlenkott came right back with a 3-pointer and then took a feed from Sigler for a lay-up to tie the score and gave Prairie their first lead when she converted the 3-point play.
NaTosha Schaeffer made it a 20-17 halftime lead when she stole the ball and drove in for a lay-up with 15 seconds left.
Neither team scored very much in the third quarter. Prairie extended the lead to 5 twice but Lewis County came back each time.
The Eagles cut the lead to just 1 at 25-24 with a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left in the third quarter.
Sigler opened the fourth quarter scoring with a 3-pointer and Uhlenkott followed with 3 straight baskets as Prairie opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run to push the lead to 10 at 34-24.
Lewis County was held to just 2 free throws in the final quarter as they went 0-10 from the field.
Uhlenkott wound up with 23 points and outscored the Eagles 23-15 over the final 3 quarters. Sigler added 10 points while Schaeffer and Haleigh Schmidt scored 2 each and Jennifer Enneking and Guyer scored 1 each.
Lewis County held a 33-36 rebounding edge. Uhlenkott led Prairie with 9 while Guyer added 7 rebounds.
Uhlenkott also had 4 steals and Sigler had 2 assists.
Kaylee Uhlenkott scored 12 of her 23 points in the second quarter as Prairie shook off a nearly scoreless first quarter to win.Prairie was 12 for 42 from the field, 29%, and 9 for 15 at the line, 60%. Lewis County was 8 for 37 from the field, 22%, and 9 for 21 from the line, 43%.
With the win Prairie finished league play with a 4-3 record and are 10-7 overall.
In the JV game Prairie finished the half with a 12-0 run that helped them to a 51-27 win.
Until that final 3:30 of the half it was a close game as Prairie led just 14-12 before going on that run.
Prairie led just 7-6 after the first quarter as they couldn’t score in the first 4 minutes of the game. They took their first lead at 7-6 on a 3-pointer by Francesca Johnson with 1:14 left in the quarter.
LC took back the lead to start the second quarter but Kayla Johnson scored 5 straight points on a basket and 3 free throws to give Prairie the lead for good.
With 3:22 left in the half MaKayla Schaeffer connected on a high-arcing 3-pointer and followed with a basket to push the lead to 7. Kayla Johnson scored a bank shot and Francesca Johnson followed with another 3-pointer. Monica Lustig closed out the half with a steal and drive for a lay-up to make it 26-12.
Lewis County never got closer than 12 points in the second half. Francesca Johnson scored 11 of her game high 17 points in the second half to help hold off the Eagles.
Schaeffer added 13 points and Kayla Johnson 12 while Lustig scored 6 and Haleigh Schmidt scored 3.
Lewis County had a 38-41 rebounding edge. Schaeffer led Prairie with 11 rebounds while Kayla Johnson had 9.
Kayla also had 6 steals while Francesca had 5 and Lustig 4. Meghan Bruner had 5 assists and Kayla Johnson had 4.
Prairie forced 33 turnovers while committing just 14.

Lady pirates edge Kamiah
For the second time this year the Prairie Lady Pirates won a close game with Kamiah, this time 46-44 at Kamiah Monday, Jan. 26.
The game was close throughout although Prairie led most of the way.
Amber Holthaus hit a 3-pointer late in the first quarter to give Prairie a 7-5 lead at the quarter break.
Both teams heated up from the field in the second quarter as Prairie hit 7 of 12 shots and Kamiah was 8 for 14. Prairie kept their 2-point advantage thanks to a pair of 3-pointers while all of Kamiah’s scores were 2-pointers.
Megan Sigler was 3  for 3 in the quarter including a 3-pointer for 7 points.
Prairie led 23-21 at the half.
Kaylee Uhlenkott hit a pair of 3 pointers and scored 8 points in the third quarter as Prairie outscored the Kubs 13-11 to extend their lead to 36-32 after 3 quarters.
In the fourth quarter Prairie was 5 for 7 at the line which helped them hold off the Kubs for the 2-point win.
Uhlenkott wound up with 14 points to lead the scoring with Jennifer Enneking scoring 8, Sigler 7, Mary Shears 5, Holthaus 3 and Kristi Poxleitner, NaTosha Schaeffer, Kara Guyer and Alena Hoene scoring 2 points each.
Prairie had one of their best shooting nights of the season as they were 15 for 33 from the field for 45%. They were 6 for 13 at the line, 46%. Kamiah was 18 for 46 from the field, 39%, and 8 for 19 at the line, 42%.
With the win Prairie ends their regular season with an 11-7 record.
Prairie also won the JV game but we don’t have a score available.

Lady Pirates open against Kendrick at District
The Prairie Lady Pirates wound up in 4th place in the Division 1 portion of the White Pine League and will face 5th seeded Kendrick in their District Tournament opener at approximately 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the LCSC Activity Center.
Their game follows a matchup between top-seeded Lapwai and 8th seeded Timberline.
The other 4 teams in the 1-A Division 1 tournament will play on Wednesday, Feb. 4 with 2nd seeded Genesee playing Lewis County and third seeded C.V. playing Troy.
Win or lose Prairie’s second round game will be Friday, Feb. 6. If they win Tuesday they’ll play at 7 p.m. and if they lose they’ll play at 4 p.m. All 8 teams will be in action that day.
Two loser out games are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10 with the championship and third place games set for Thursday, Feb. 12.
The top two finishers advance to state while the third place team will play the #1 team from District 1 on Saturday, Feb. 14, either Wallace or Lakeside, for a trip to state.
