School Board meets
The school board held their February meeting last Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Prairie Middle School. Jeff Martin was approved for hire as the new head softball coach replacing Travis Mader who had resigned. Martin previously coached at Culdesac leading them to two state championships. . . .

6 wrestlers qualify for State
All six Prairie wrestlers competing at the District I-II wrestling tournament at Grangeville Saturday, Feb. 21 qualified for the state tournament. Brandon Poxleitner at 135 lbs., James Jackson at 145 lbs., Tyrell Langston at 160 lbs. and Chance Ratcliff at 215 lbs. all finished second at District while Philip Smakman at 130 lbs. and Mitchell Jungert at 285 lbs. placed third. The top 3 in each weight class advanced to state. . . .

Summit girls out in 2 at state; Boys take 2nd at District then 2nd at Regionals; Summit 2 and 2 at INEEL Tourney; Jr. high boys and girls compete at Hallissey Tournament
For 3 quarters it looked like the Summit Academy girls might win their first ever state game but Carey pulled the game out 39-44 in the fourth quarter Thursday, Feb. 19 at Nampa. Summit was then eliminated the next day by Garden Valley 43-54. . . .
The Summit boys beat Culdesac to take 2nd at District then went 2-1 at Regionals to take 2nd there. . . .
Missing the girls on their team in an action-packed weekend, the girls competing in Nampa at the state basketball tourney held there, seven boys from Summit traveled to Moscow last Thursday where they joined a field from central and north Idaho in the annual Academic Bowl tourney hosted by Idaho’s National Environmental and Engineering Lab out of southern Idaho. . . .
Summit Academy junior high girls completed one of their best performances at the annual Hallissey tourney for junior high boys and girls last weekend in Boise, as they lost a couple of close matches, but came away with three big victories to gain the semifinals, and finish third in the 10-team girls tourney. . . .
Summit’s fourth team in action over this past weekend saw the 6th-7th and 8th boys from Summit travel to Hallissey also, where they managed a two win, two loss record over the two-day event. . . .

The Prairie cheerleaders came prepared and as the district game against Kendrick neared completion they brought out their “On 2 State” plcards as the Prairie Pirates broke a 27-year drought by qualifying for the state tournament. See story below left. Click on the photo for a larger view.
