teams both take third in 11-school meet
The Prairie boys and girls track teams each took third place in an 11-school meet held at Kamiah Tuesday, March 17. The girls and boys team each picked up wins in the same 3 events. For the boys team Kyler Shumway won the shot put with a mark of 54’6” and Devin Schmidt won the triple jump with a mark of 39’10”. The 4x100 relay team of Schmidt, Shumway, Jason VonBargen and Justin Schmidt also won with a time of 48.2 For the girls Kaylee Uhlenkott won the shot put with a mark of 35’2” and Katie Nuxoll won the triple jump with a mark of 31’2½”. Also winning was the girls 4x100 of Mary Shears, Kristin Hill, NaTosha Schaeffer and Demetria Riener in a time of 57.4. For the boys team Shumway was also second in the discus with a mark of 130’10”. Devin Schmidt took second in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes in times of 11.8 and 24.5 respectively. Brock Heath was second in both the 1600 and 3200 in times of 5:08.3 and 10:53.2 respectively. For the girls NaTosha Schaeffer was second in the 200 meter dash in 28.99 while her sister MaKayla Schaeffer was second in the long jump at 15’2½”. The 4x200 relay team took second in 1:58.3 and the medley relay team was third in 2:15.2. Shumway, Schmidt win at Lewiston meet Kyler Shumway and Devin Schmidt each won an event at the Lewiston Invitational Track Meet Saturday, March 21. Shumway tied his personal best and school record of 55’11” in winning the shot put. For his effort he was named the outstanding competitor for the meet in boys field events. Schmidt won the triple jump with a mark of 40’8½”. He was also third in the 200 at 23.6. Also competing from Prairie was Kaylee Uhlenkott as she took second in the girls shot put with a mark of 34’9”.
