holds graduation ceremonies
Five students making up the class of 2009 at Summit Academy held their graduation exercises last Friday, May 29, at the Summit Academy gym. Valedictorian Kim Frei and co-salutatorians Joseph Lustig and Michael Hattrup gave their speeches and each later received high honor medals. Jerry Wren gave the commencement address. For Wren this completed a trifecta as he had previously served as commencement speaker at both St. Gertrude’s Academy and Prairie High School. Each graduate was given certificates recognizing their extracurricular activities over their 4 years of high school. Principle Annette Wemhoff then presented three annual awards given to Summit’s seniors at graduation. The Congeniality Award went to Frei. The Patriot Award went to Chase Nuxoll. The Excelsior Award also went to Frei. Following is a list of the scholarships awarded to the class of 2009: Kim Frei: Inland Title Company, $500; Benedictine College-Fr. Sylvester Schmidt Scholarship, $8,000; LCSC-Presidential, $1000; Freshman, $500; Idaho Promise, $500; UI-UI Achievement, $100; UI Leadership-Class of 2009, $1000; Idaho Robert Lee Promise, $300. Michael Hattrup: UI-UI Alumni Association, $100; UI Achievement, $1,000; UI Leadership-Class of 2009, $1000; Idaho Robert Lee Promise B $600; L. Dean and Gay Welch, $1000. Joseph Lustig: Franciscan University of Steubenvile-Admission Grant, $2,000 renewable; Institutional Grant, $3,148 renewable; Ava Maria University-Leadership Scholarship, $7,500 renewable. Chase Nuxoll: UI Leadership-Class of 2009, $1,000.
