Summit students clean highway Fifteen high school students from Summit Academy descended on their two-mile strip of highway, between Cottonwood and Ferdinand, and collected 23 bags of liter in record time of one hour and 10 minutes on Thursday, the last week of school. The stretch has been contracted to Summit for the past several years, and results in students and staff gathering a couple of times each year to gather the bottles and cans left behind the highway litterers. The fifteen students, a record number, were accompanied by staff members Nick Hattrup and Jerry Wren, and all were treated to pizza and pop to round out the afternoon. Students doing the cleaning this spring were seniors Kim Frei, Dustin and Joseph Lustig, juniors Josh Frei, Dylan Prigge, and Margaret Yalbuw, sophomores Jamie Chmelik, David Johnson, Vicki Schlader and Rachel Wemhoff, and frosh Austin Chmelik, Nicole Frei, Derek Nuxoll, Savanah Prigge, and Josh Schlader. |
