Booster Bulletin
The 2009-10 school year is in full swing and the Prairie Booster Club is back in action.  As the football season progresses, we will be watching our defending state champions in those cool fall evenings. Again we have stadium blankets to keep you warm and new this year, insulated mugs.  You can have the ladies at the concession stand put your coffee or hot cocoa in your insulated Pirate mug to drink while watching the game.  Both the blanket and mug can be purchased at Dan’s Burger Barn during home football games or by calling any of the Booster officers.  Speaking of Dan’s Burger Barn, if you would like to sign up for a shift for either home varsity or junior varsity games, call Loretta Riener at 962-5938. We always need someone to sell 50/50 or Booster buttons as well.
The Prairie Booster Club would also like to extend a challenge to all you Pirate fans: students, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbors and friends.  We challenge every fan to wear the school colors or Pirate wear every day there is a home game in every sport this year.   So that starts with this Friday night, the 18th with a varsity football game followed by a junior varsity game on Monday, the 21st and volleyball game on Thursday, the 24th.  Extended game schedules are printed else where in the Chronicle.  Every home game, show your pride and let everyone know that you are a PIRATE FAN!  If you need some Pirate clothing, stop by Dan’s Burger Barn to see what remaining items the Booster’s have available or to place an order through the middle school.  If you are unable to stop by Friday night, contact Amy Sigler at the middle school by September 21st to place an order.
One more thing….did you know that September 19th is “National Talk Like A Pirate Day”?  Yes, there is such a thing, who knew!  Well you all do now, so let’s celebrate “Talk Like a Pirate Day” at the home football game on Friday night.  We will have a pirate joke telling contest.  Submit an appropriate Pirate joke or jokes by either e-mailing them to riener@cottonwoodbutte.org or by stopping by Dan’s Burger Barn before the start of the game.  No jokes will be taken after the 7:00 start time.  A panel of judges will select the top five jokes.  At half time, those jokes will be read aloud to the crowd by our two favorite buccaneers, Pat and Ed.  The crowd will be asked to cheer for each joke and whichever joke gets the loudest cheers as determined by the panel of judges will be the winner of a stadium blanket and insulated mug.   But let us not limited the celebration to just the football game, talk like a Pirate all day! Sea You at the Game!
Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
That time in September when sea dogs remember
That  grown-ups still know how ta play!
And a soft-wear patch covers your eye,
Ta heck with our jobs, for one day we're all swabs
And buccaneers all till we die!
There ain't no computin' or morning commutin',
No "Parking Lot Full" signs for me,
No lawns ta be mowin' or bills to be owin',
I'm knowin' the pull of the sea.
The fresh salty brace of the wind on my face
Through hurricane, sunshine or squalls,
I'm keepin' my eyes on the distant horizon,
Verizon can hold all my calls!
To wear a red coat full o' buckles,
To earn a few dueling scars,
Well, at least we can get a few chuckles
By filling the office with ARRRs!
So hoist up the mainsails and shut down your brain cells,
They only would get in the way,
Avast there, me hearty, we're havin' a party,
It's "Talk Like A Pirate" Day!
