Prairie
to play Raft River on Friday
Prairie’s opening round opponent in the state football playoffs this Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at the Kibbie Dome will be the Raft River Trojans from Malta, which is south and east of Burley. Raft River is the third seed from Districts 4-5-6 and plays in the same league as last year’s state championship opponent Oakley. Raft River brings a 7-2 record into the state playoffs having lost to Castleford 22-32 in their season opener and to Oakley 14-16. Castleford lost to Oakley 20-48 last Friday in what amounted to their league championship game. Raft River’s wins were over Hagerman 58-12, Hansen 62-14, Lighthouse Christian 30-20, North Gem 44-8, Shoshone 50-0, Sho-Ban 76-0 and Challis 52-8. That they were able to hold Oakley to just 16 points when Oakley scored at least 46 in every other game they played says that the Trojans have a solid defense, maybe better than anything the Pirates have seen so far this season. If Prairie gets past Raft River their second round opponent would be the winner of the Wallace-Potlatch game, which will be played at Wallace this weekend. The other half of the state bracket features Castleford against Cascade and Oakley against Notus. Notus won a 3-way Kansas tiebreaker on Monday to determine the second place team from District 3.
