Prairie
to play Oakley in championship game
It will be a rematch of last year’s state championship game as Prairie will take on Oakley Saturday, Nov. 21 at noon PST at Holt Arena in Pocatello. The team bus will be leaving the football field at 12:30 p.m. They will go past the middle school and then the elementary school and then down Main Street. The community is invited to turn out at any of these locations to send the team off. For those unfamiliar with Holt Arena, it is also called the Minidome and is an indoor stadium. It is barrel shaped like the Kibbie Dome except the arc is the other way as the goal posts hang from the ceiling as it arcs down past each end zone. Like last year both teams bring perfect 11-0 season records into the game. Unlike last year, this time it’s Prairie who is the defending state champion and favorite to win. Prairie has won 23 straight game while Oakley has won 34 of their last 35 with their only loss coming in last year’s championship game. Their only common opponent was Raft River which Prairie beat 40-8 in the opening round of the playoffs and Oakley beat 16-14. Oakley’s other scores this year were 54-6 over Carlin, Nevada; 50-0 over Hagerman, 58-8 over Hansen, 60-12 over Lighthouse Christian, 46-0 over Shoshone, 56-6 over Sho-Ban, 74-28 over Challis, 48-20 over Castleford and in the state playoffs 62-12 over Notus and 38-20 over Castleford. |
