Diabetes
support group to meet
The Grangeville diabetes support group’s next meeting will be held March 16th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Oscar’s Restaurant in Grangeville. The speaker for the first hour will be Bill Morphy who will discuss the proper use and reading of Accu-Chek glucometers. At 2:00 p.m. Gary McEwen, PT, SMH Grangeville Physical Therapy, will discuss resistance training for people with diabetes. He will distribute therabands for participants to take home and use for proper resistance training. The support group meets the third Tuesday of every month. Anyone impacted by diabetes is welcome to attend. The sessions are coordinated by Becky Ewing, Certified Diabetes Educator and an RN at St. Mary’s Hospital, Cottonwood. She is also a Certified Medtronic pump trainer. There is no charge or preregistration and people do not have to attend every meeting. “The best medicine for diabetes is information,” said Ewing. “It is extremely important to learn how to manage the disease. So much more is known today through research. There are a lot of tools out there to help people with diabetes. It’s a matter of knowing about them and receiving regular support to maintain a person’s good health.” Ewing has been facilitating a diabetes support group in Kamiah for the past two years. For additional information Ewing can be reached at St. Mary’s Hospital, 962-3251. |
