Heath, Schaeffer win events
The Prairie track team opened their season Saturday, March 20 with most of the team competing at the Lapwai Invitational while two others competed at the Lewiston Invitational. Kyler Shumway and Brock Heath competed at Lewiston with Shumway winning both the shot put and discus events while Heath won the 3200 and was 4th in the 1600. Shumway’s winnings marks were 55’8” in the shot and 142’1” in the discus. Heath won the 3200 in 10:31.2 and ran the 1600 in 4:51.4. At Lapwai MaKayla Schaeffer in the long jump was Prairie’s lone event winner as she had a mark of 15’2½”. She was also 4th in the 100 meter dash in 13.5 seconds. NaTosha Schaeffer placed second in both hurdles events as she had a time of 17.9 in the 100 hurdles and 50.4 in the 300 hurdles. Prairie’s girls 400 relay team took third in 54.2. The girls team totaled 61 points, good for 5th place out of 18 teams. For the boys team Ryan Dalgliesh was the only top 4 finisher at Lapwai as he took third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.6.
