is Employee of the Month
The Customer Service team at St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics selected Tina Fernandez as the April Employee of the Month. 
She received her Certified Medical Assistant degree in Lauderdale Lakes,
Florida in 1994. She was hired as Dr. Jack Secrest’s Medical Assistant
in August, 2004.
“I went to school to become a medical assistant because I really like to work with people,” said Fernandez. “Working ‘hands on’ with patients and, hopefully, making a difference in their lives is very gratifying.” After completing her medical assistant education and moving to Spokane, Fernandez worked for Associated Family Physicians, Spokane Group Health and a physician in private practice. After moving with her family to Cottonwood she was hired at SMHC. “I really enjoy working at St. Mary’s. The people here are all great,” said Fernandez. “I work with other staff to coordinate patient care so we treat our patients in an efficient, but personal way.” Fernandez’s responsibilities include making sure the patient’s chart is available, meeting the patient, settling them in the exam room, taking their vital signs, setting up appointments with specialists, if necessary and doing any follow up requested by the physician. Patients are so appreciative which is my biggest reward and makes me realize I made the right choice to be in the health care field, said Fernandez. When she is not working Fernandez enjoys the great outdoors, volleyball, running, and spending time with her family: husband, Jack and children, Jake and Max and her mom, Suzie. |
