girls 4x200 earn state titles
Kyler Shumway won his third straight state 1-A shot put title and the girls 4x200 relay team also won a state title at the State Track Meet May 21-22 at Boise. Shumway won the shot put with a mark of 59’9¼” just inches short of the state meet record. He also took second place in the discus with a mark of 153’8” and was 8th in the 100 meter dash in 11.77. The girls 4x200 relay team of Kristin Hill, NaTosha Schaeffer, Shelby VonBargen and MaKayla Schaeffer took first in a time of 1:49.62. The same girls competed in the 4x400 relay and took second in 4:31.58 and in the 4x100 relay where they took third in 53.47. In the 300 hurdles, NaTosha Schaeffer took second in 50.34. During the prelims on Friday she set a personal best of 48.63 that was just 0.11 seconds off the school record held by Tabitha Sonnen. MaKayla Schaeffer took third in the long jump with a mark of 15’4½”. Mary Shears earned a state medal with a 6th place finish in the discus with a mark of 104’2”. She also placed 7th in the shot put at 32’8”. As a team the girls placed 5th out of 36 scoring schools with 43 points. They were just 10 points behind first. Brock Heath competed in the 3 distance races and earned a state medal with a 6th place finish in the 3200 in 10:08.77. He placed 7th in the 1600 in 4:50.67 and 11th in the 800 in 2:06.93. Ryan Dalgliesh finished 13th in the 400 in 55.34 and was unable to clear the opening height in the high jump. As a team the boys placed 9th out of 35 scoring schools with 24 points.
