Raspberry
Festival Fun Run/Walk entrants sought
A 10K Fun Run and 5K Walk will kick off the day of family fun on August 1 at the 18th Annual Raspberry Festival at the Monastery of St. Gertrude, 465 Keuterville Road, in Cottonwood. Beginning at 8 am in front of the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude, the course follows an out-and-back route on a quiet, paved country road. The stretch offers views of the Seven Devils mountains, Salmon River breaks, Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area and the Camas Prairie, making the Raspberry Festival Fun Run one of the most scenic running/walking events in Idaho. Water and refreshments will be provided and showers are available at the nearby Prairie High School gym. Enjoy the Pancake Breakfast served 8-10 a.m. outside the Museum, featuring pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs. Entry fees are $15 if submitted by July 29 and $18 afterwards, including the day of the race. Registered runners and walkers will receive a commemorative T-shirt. For information and registration, call 208-962-2050 or e-mail museum@stgertrudes.org. Register online at www.signmeup.com/69524. The 18th Annual Raspberry Festival is a fund-raising event for the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude and includes an arts and crafts fair, quilt show, Show ‘n Shine car show, kids carnival, live entertainment and Raspberry Shortcake, BBQ beef sandwiches and the Raspberry Rendezvous, featuring muzzle loading, historical costumes and cultural demonstrations. This year’s event is dedicated to Sr. Wilma Schlangen (1915-2010). Sr. Wilma tended the Monastery’s raspberry patch for decades and provided inspiration for the festival. |
