School Board meets
The school board held their regular July meeting Monday, July 19. It was also the annual meeting.
Roy Schumacher was re-elected as Board Chairman while Della Gehring will remain as vice-chairman.
The meetings will continue to be held on the third Monday of the month at 7 p.m. but will be moved to the Middle School library as the Superintendent and Clerk will be working out of that building now.
Hot lunch prices, bus rental rate and per diem rates were all kept the same as last year.
Kristi (Schmidt) Bruegeman was approved as the Kindergarten teacher for a one year replacement for Mrs. Gilbert who is taking a leave of absence.
Beth  (Nau) Robertson was approved as the school psychologist after a state of emergency was declared as the hire they made for this position last month got a full-time offer from Orofino. Robertson has a masters in psychology and will be taking classes to reach full certification for the position.
Two bids were received for the asbestos abatement in the high school basement. They approved the bid from Advanced Contracting, LLC for $30,357. It was nearly $4,000 less than the other bid. They also received two bids for fuel. Primeland’s bid of $37,977 was about $1300 less than the other bid and it was approved.
Superintendent Rene’ Forsmann reported on the summer projects and facility upgrades. The basement has been completely cleaned out at the high school and asbestos abatement work has started. The abatement project is due to be completed August 20.
Some trees and shrubs were removed. The bus shop doors have been painted and the work on converting the third bay to storage is well underway. Drain tile and gravel has been put around the building.
At the Middle School the kitchen remodel work is ongoing. It is expected to be completed by August 18.
The high school annex is also due to be completed August 18. Walls are in as is wiring for computers and electric.
Forsmann handed out an outline to the board members showing that they appear to be on budget for the projects.
It was approved to call for bids on Reference for Qualifications for an architect for the upcoming projects.
Appraisal of the Kindergarten Building was discussed. St. Mary’s Parish has expressed interest in that building. They have an appraised value of all the buildings from their insurance carrier. They need to get the land value appraised. The board gave the go-ahead to do so.
In the administrative reports, Forsmann noted that driver’s education started shortly after school was out and was completed July 15.
Teel Bruner held a basketball camp June 28-July 1 and Vikki Riener held a volleyball camp July 12-14.
Volleyball and girls basketball are holding open gyms at the Middle School.
August 2-6 they will do the gym refinishing,
Transitioning people to new buildings will be done the first week of August. Amy Sigler will move to the high school and Denise Uhlenkott to the middle school. Judy Forsman will share her time with the high school and middle school in the morning from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Rene’ Forsmann noted that at this time they have 389 students enrolled districtwide compared to 413 at the end of the 2009-10 school year.
The board adjourned to an executive session at 8 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, August 16 at 7 p.m. at the Middle School Library.
