Pirates
seeking another state trip
The Prairie football team will get into action this week with a JV game at Kamiah on Thursday at 6 p.m. and a varsity home game against Genesee on Friday at 7 p.m. There will be a lot of new faces in the starting lineups this year for the two-time defending White Pine League champions and state runner-up. One returnee though will be running back/linebacker Devin Schmidt, a senior, who will play at tailback on offense and figures to get the bulk of the carries in the rushing game. The team likely will feature more of a rushing offense as you go from a 4-year starter at quarterback to first year varsity starter Beau Schlader, a senior. There is good size on the roster with 10 players weighing in at over 200 lbs. and 8 of those over 220. Josh Roeper, Colton Nuxoll and David Johnson are expected to anchor the lines. Overall there are 37 players turned out for the team this year. Seniors are Seth Guyer, Devin Schmidt, Beau Schlader, Brock Heath, Ryan Dalgliesh, Justin Cox, Colton Nuxoll and David Johnson. Juniors are Josh Schlader, Troy Lorentz, Tim Frei, Justin Schmidt, Torin Dalgliesh, Cody Schumacher, Sidney Camera, Josh Roeper, Brandon Lockhart, Josh Zigler, Robert Nau, Neto Pereira and Garrett Roush. Sophomores are Marcus Higgins, Levi Lustig, Kade Perrin, Garrett Schmidt, Derek VanderPas, Tyler Latimer, Seth Chaffee and Mica Bartlett. Freshmen are Dakota Wilson, Tyler Hankerson, Jared Higgins, Joseph Halligan, Matt Schwartz, Jake Rowland, Westin Crenshaw and Casey Danly. The outlook is good for the team to compete for one of 3 state berths despite losing most of last year’s starters and if they can get past Genesee this week would be one of the favorites for the league title. The JV team lost just 1 game in the past two years and the junior high team has also been very successful. The statewide media polls have them ranked #2 in the state but the preseason polls are based almost entirely on how the teams finished the year before. The team will have just 8 varsity games this year as Timberline went to JV only and made the decision to do so too late for the Pirates to schedule another game that week. Thus they will have a bye the week of Sept. 24. Changes to football schedules There are a couple of changes to the football schedule, indicated below in italics. Kendrick didn't have enough players turned out to have both a JV and varsity so Prairie was able to schedule Kamiah's JV for this Thursday, Sept. 2. They will be playing a straight 8-man game as opposed to the 8/11 games played in past years. The game will be at Kamiah's field. Timberline is going with a JV only squad due to low turnout so the varsity game originally scheduled for Sept. 24 is now a BYE week. They couldn't get a date set for a JV game against Deary so Prairie will play Lewis County instead on Sept. 9. That game will be at Lewis County with the JV game scheduled to be played at Lewis County on October 12 moved to Cottonwood at 6 p.m. PIRATES BOYS FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FOR 2010 10-Deary, there 17-Potlatch, there 24-BYE 8-Lapwai, here, Homecoming 15-Lewis County, at Craigmont, 3 p.m. 22-C.V., here 29-Troy, there 12 or 13-Kibbie Dome, TBA 19 or 20-Championship, TBA 9-Lewis County, there, 4 p.m. 16-Potlatch, there 23-Timberline, here 12-Lewis County, here 21-C.V., here 28-Troy, there Changes are in italics |
