out for PHS volleyball
The Prairie volleyball team sees their first varsity action this Thursday, Sept. 2 at Grangeville. The varsity and JV did manage to get some game action in last Tuesday in a Jamboree at Grangeville and the JV competed in a tournament at Genesee on Saturday. This year there are 22 girls out for the team with 9 on the varsity and the rest making up the JV squad. 5 of the 9 varsity players are returnees from last year’s team. They are seniors Kayla Johnson, Shelby Duman and Francesca Johnson and juniors Samantha Poxleitner and Megan Sigler. Up from last year’s JV squad are juniors Monica Lustig, Demetria Riener and sophomore Tanna Schlader. The team also has a transfer from Grangeville in junior MeShel Rad. Coach Vikki Riener said she likes the attitude so far with this group. She also added that the team summer camp they had helped tremendously as they haven’t had to spend so much practice time on the fundamentals. Making up the JV team this year are sophomores Kayla Frei, Kelsey Tidwell, Hope Vanator, Tyler Workman, Cheryl Gehring, Rachel Falzon, Claire Whitley and Stephanie Gimmeson and freshmen Beka Bruner, Brandi Gehring, Leah Holthaus, Lydia Lustig and Keely Schmidt. The JV will split into C and JV teams at Grangeville on Thursday with the C match set to start at 4:30 p.m.
