Diabetes
support group meetings resume
Becky Ewing, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator, will resume a monthly diabetes support group the third Tuesday of every month from 1:00-3:00 p.m. She began the monthly educational offerings in Grangeville last winter. This will be her third year facilitating a similar group in Kamiah. The first Grangeville meeting will be held Tuesday, September 21 at Oscar’s Restaurant, 101 Main Street. Ewing received her diabetes education certification in 2003. She is a certified Medtronics pump trainer and a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood. Ewing also volunteers at Camp Stix, a summer camp for children with diabetes in Newport, Washington. The presenter for the September meeting will be Dr. Joel Brown, Optometrist, speaking about prevention of eye problems for people with diabetes. “Cottonwood residents are more than welcome to attend. Anyone whose life is impacted by diabetes is encouraged to join us,” said Ewing. She will be available during an informal no host lunch prior to the presentation. “I will arrive at noon so anyone who would like some one on one time to ask questions is certainly welcome to visit. I’d be happy to eat lunch and informally answer any questions prior to our meeting,” said Ewing. “I look forward to facilitating the monthly support group. Hopefully, it will help empower people to manage their disease and ensure healthier outcomes.” For more information call the SMH Grangeville Medical Clinic, 983.6027, or the SMH Cottonwood Medical Clinic, 962-3267.
