Monthly
Women’s Health Days to be offered
St. Mary’s and Clearwater Valley Hospitals and Clinics will be offering monthly Women’s Health Days at four of their satellite clinics. In conjunction with St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center’s mobile mammography services, the Cottonwood, Orofino, Kamiah and Grangeville Medical clinics will offer a mammogram and a female wellness exam on the same day. The Women’s Health Day will be offered in Orofino on the first Wednesday of the month; in Kamiah on the second Wednesday; at Grangeville the third Wednesday and at Cottonwood on the fourth Wednesday of every month beginning this January. “Women are typically very busy with lots to do so we worked with St. Joe’s to arrange a set schedule for their mobile mammography service to visit our clinics. We’ll also have one or more healthcare providers ready on those days to provide a woman’s annual female exam ,” said Jeanette Gorman, SMHC/CVHC Community Relations Coordinator. “Of course, women can make an appointment any time, any day and with any provider at any clinic location, but for those women interested in having both done on the same day this will be very convenient.” The Cottonwood and Orofino clinics can also schedule women to have a bone mineral density screen done on that same day, too. Not all women who have an annual wellness exam are candidates for a mammogram. Their healthcare provider will discuss when and how often a woman should have a mammogram, said Gorman. “I was diagnosed with breast cancer four years ago through my yearly mammogram. I have no family history so I was caught off guard. Luckily, it was caught early, but it made me realize the importance of having mammograms and if our clinics can make that easier for women we will do anything we can to make it convenient.” According to the American Cancer Society, one in every eight American women will experience breast cancer in her lifetime and 80% of those women have no family history. Appointments can be made through each of the clinics. |
