Healthy
Horizons continues into 2011
The 2011 Healthy Horizons Cottonwood program began Tuesday, January 4th with a session on Fiber. This year’s sessions will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. every other Tuesday at the Cottonwood Medical Clinic. They begin with a confidential weigh in from 5:30 to 6:00 followed by a 30 minute educational session. For people attending the first time, the cost is $10 to cover materials and $5 per subsequent session. The program is sponsored by St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinics in three communities: Grangeville, Kamiah and Cottonwood. The facilitators include Becky Ewing, RN, Certified Diabetes Educator; Kevin Conger, Registered Dietetic Technician, and Vicki Berg, RN, CDE. “Although our educational sessions change each time, we also focus on behavioral change to encourage people to adopt practical lifestyle changes. We try to provide the right education so people will know which are the healthiest choices, in addition, we help arm them with the ability and support to make those choices even when it’s difficult. Our first session of the year on exercise shouldn’t be missed because it is probably on everyone’s New Year’s resolution list.” For the next five months the Cottonwood sessions will be offered on January 18th; February 1st and 15th; March 1st, 15th and 29th; April 12th and 26th and May 10th and 24th.
