Five earn first place medals at Orofino
There were six Prairie wrestlers competing at the Orofino Tournament with 5 earning first place medals and the other a third place medal in action held on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 14-15.Tayler Heitman controls his opponent’s leg on his way to a win at the Orofino Tournament where he was on e of 5 wrestlers to finish first.
Tyler Ross at 103 lbs., Alex Duman at 112 lbs., Tayler Heitman at 119 lbs., Kade Perrin at 130 lbs. and Mitch Jungert at heavyweight each won all their matches and took first place.
Damian McWilliams at 135 lbs. was unbeaten until losing a semifinal match then won the third place match.
Ross wrestled five times in the tournament winning 4 by pin in the first period and the other by technical fall, 15-0. On Friday he won his first match by pin then won 15-0 over a Moscow wrestler. On Saturday he won by first period pin over Patrick Rummel of Enterprise/Wallowa; again by first period pin over Roman Cox of Pullman and in the championship match won by pin in the third period over Tanner Morgan of Moscow.
Duman wrestled 6 times and won all 6 matches by pin. We have no id for the three wrestlers he pinned on Friday. On Saturday he pinned Spencer Shelton of Enterprise/Wallowa in the first period. He then pinned Walker Reggear of Orofino in the first period and in the championship match pinned Luke Moore of Enterprise/Wallowa in the first period.
Heitman wrestled 4 times, also winning all his matches by pin. He wrestled just once on Friday, winning by pin in the third period. On Saturday he pinned Anthony Lott of Kamiah in the first period, Jacob Blaylock of Elgin in the first period and in the championship match pinned Austin Reimer of Enterprise/Wallowa in the first period.
Perrin wrestled 5 times winning 3 by pin and two by decision. On Friday he won his first match by pin and his second match against a Lewiston wrestler 10-3. On Saturday he won by pin over Josh Higginbotham of Enterprise/Wallowa in the first period, defeated Tanner Schwartz of Orofino 8-3 and in the championship match pinned Jake Stanisweki of Pullman in the second period.
McWilliams wrestled 5 times in the tournament. On Friday he won his only match over a Kamiah wrestler 3-2. On Saturday he won by pin over Mike VanSeelen of Moorse in the first period. In the semifinals he lost 0-1 to Quinton Grimmage of Lewiston. In the consolation semifinals he won by decision over Diamond Cornish of Clarkston 3-2 and in the third place match he pinned Jaden Bales of Imbler in the first period.
Jungert wrestled 6 times in the tournament. On Friday he won by pin in the third period in his first match. He then pinned a Moscow wrestler in just 35 seconds. In his third match of the day he won 10-2 over a Pullman wrestler. On Saturday he pinned Jimmy Sanzone (no school info available) in the first period; pinned Zac Carscallen of Moscow in the first period and in the championship match pinned Randy Graves of Imbler in the second period.
