Three
earn medals at New Plymouth tournament
The New Plymouth tournament was the toughest tournament of the regular season for the Prairie Wrestling Team with a mix of 5-A, 4-A, 3-A, 2-A schools, and several Oregon schools, the team had some real good competition. Three Prairie wrestlers earned medals as Kade Perrin took 2nd at 130 lbs., Mitch Jungert 3rd at 285 lbs. and Tyler Ross 4th at 103 lbs. At 103 lbs. Tyler Ross defeated Angel Castellanos Nyssa, Or. 6-4, then lost to Colton Herrick of New Plymouth, 6-10. In the consolation bracket he defeated Kaleb Tacket, Vale Or. 4-1, then lost to Tyler Flint, Vale Or. 2-6, to take 4th place. At 112 lbs. Alex Duman won by pin over Alex Gomez of Weiser then lost to Roscoe Jarboe New Plymouth, 4-7, and was eliminated in a loss to Eric Nunez, of Ontario, Or. 5-8. At 119 lbs. Tayler Heitman lost to Edgar Nunez, Ontario, Or. by pin, the lost to Dakota Stallions, New Plymouth, 5-7. At 130 lbs. Kade Perrin won by pin over Joe Cardona, Bishop Kelly, pin, defeated Colton Skinner of Fruitland, 5-3, then lost to Tristan Jarboe, Columbia, 1-14 in the championship match to take 2nd place. At 135 lbs. Damian McWilliams lost to Jacob Karpati, Middleton, 6-12, then defeated Steven Despain of Weiser, 2-1, won by pin over Dallon Heavnor, of Vale Or. then lost to Luis Jaurez of New Plymouth, 2-5. At 171 lbs Garrett Schmidt lost to Blake Kendall of Columbia by pin, defeated Devin Turner of Glenns Ferry by pin, then lost to Tony Trejo, of Ontario, Or. by pin. Schmidt was finally back in action after missing several matches with the after effects of a concussion. At 285 lbs. Mitch Jungert won by pin over Edy Mesillas of Glenns Ferry, lost to Anthony Freeman of Fruitland, 8-5, won by pin over Will Devos New Plymouth, and in the third place match won 6-3 over Jake Harvey of Middleton, 6-3. As a team Prairie placed 9th out of 17 teams, with 82 points. Their next competition is Feb. 8th at home at the high school at 6:00 p.m.
