Summit
girls take third at Hallissey
Making their annual trip to Boise for the Hallissey Tournament sponsored by the Diocese of Boise, Summit’s girls carried a 2-win record into the tourney finals only to lose out on their quest for the championship, settling for third place for the third time for Summit at this competition. Their 2-win record was built on a randomly selected bye in the first round, plus a hard-fought one point win over a tough St. Joe team in the second round, the victory coming on a shot by Megan Seubert just beating the buzzer. The loss leaving them in third place came without the services of starter Joline Chmelik, out due to sickness during the final game. Coached by Julie Schumacher, the Patriots suited up only two 8th graders, Seubert and Kayla Schumacher, with the remaining players going down to the 5th grade in what is normally a 7th and 8th grade tournament. Making the trip on the Summit team besides Seubert, Schumacher and Chmelik were Kaitlin Stubbers, Rachel Waters, Bridget Beckman, Ellie Watson, DeLayne VanGunten, Lauren Stubbers and Angela Wemhoff. Summit boys also made the trip and competed in the tourney, winning 1 of 3 games while losing their final two close matches, no details available. In their final game, a back and forth match with a tough St. Joe team, the Patriots lost out right at the end, ending their quest to fight their way one more game into the tourney finals.
