Ahlers
is employee of the month
When it comes to wearing lots of hats Angela Ahlers, St. Mary’s Hospital May Employee of the Month, must have a closet full. She serves as a unit coordinator, a business office secretary and an Advanced EMT with the SMH Ambulance Service. She was originally hired in 1999 and has worked almost every shift imaginable. She works days in the business office, evenings as a unit coordinator and is ‘on call’ as an EMT. In the business office where she has worked for ten years she helps admit patients, answers the telephone, serves as a greeter and according to Angie, “does anything else that needs doing.” Entering doctors orders, tracking charges, transcribing, answering the phone are just a few of the things she does while working at the nurses’ station as a unit coordinator which has been a part time job for the past two years. In addition, Angie has been an EMT for about ten years going on ambulance runs which can occur any time of the day or night. She completed the necessary training to become an Advanced EMT and currently serves as their secretary. “St. Mary’s has given me many opportunities. I’ve stumbled a few times, but have forged ahead, learning from my mistakes,” said Angie. “I love what I do and love and appreciate this facility and all the wonderful people I am so lucky to work with. I am truly blessed.” Her nomination form describes her as having a friendly manner and attitude; committed and dedicated; willing to support other departments and always sharing her skills and expertise. “You could call Angie any time and know that she’d be there willing to help, if needed.” When she is not wearing one or the other of her three work hats, Angie enjoys home improvement, reading, walking, hiking and spending time with her family and pets. Her family includes her husband, Joe, daughter, Kelsey Marker and twin sons, Kyle and Kaleb Marker. SMHC employees of the month are nominated by their co-workers and selected by the customer service team which has representatives from almost every department. The Employee of the Year is voted on by all staff members. This is the second year of the program. According to a customer service team member. “Angie exemplifies the qualities we look for in selecting an employee each month. She always has a smile and a positive attitude. She makes our patients feel welcome and special.” |
