Nuxoll
plays on winning West team
Colton Nuxoll, along with players from Potlatch, Troy, Wallace, Idaho City, Garden Valley, Notus, Council and Salmon River made up the West All-Star team for the All-State Football game on July 9 at Simplot Stadium in Caldwell. The event was made possible for Nuxoll by local sponsors Schlader Photography, Rieners Grocery, Hoene Hardware, The hair Hut, Bud’s Saw Service, Hometown Auto & Ag, Forsmann Accounting, The Hangout, US Bank and A-1 Flowers & More. With only 2½ days of practice, the 13-member team was able to pull together and win the game. The game was scoreless for almost 10 minutes until the West was able to score and take the lead. The East time fired right back with a touchdown and kicked extra point only 2 plays later to bring the score to 8-7 which is where it stood at the end of the first quarter. The West team scored early in the second quarter to take a 14-7 lead, but once again the East responded. This time with a 22 yard field goal that made the score 14-10. Neither team was able to put points on the board the remainder of the first half. The second half started much like the first, with neither team scoring until late in the third quarter when the West scored a touchdown, but was unable to make the 2-point conversion. The West held their 20-10 lead through the end of the quarter. Six minutes into the fourth quarter the East team was able to score but missed the extra point to cut the lead to 20-16. Great defense by both teams kept the remainder of the game scoreless even though both teams were able to drive inside the 10 yard line at least once. The final score was West All-Stars 20, East All-Stars 16. |
