Youth
to fast to raise money for needy
We will begin our 30 Hour Fast on Saturday, Sept. 10th at 9 a.m. at Holy Cross Hall in Keuterville and end it on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. following the Youth Mass at St. Mary’s Church. You will be asked not to eat anything after 5 a.m. on Saturday morning. You can drink water/juice before you arrive on Saturday morning. We will be doing several activities during our time together, which include: tribe competitions, prayer, ice breakers, service project, sharing, journaling, learning, designing t-shirts, all giving you the opportunity to grow deeper in your understanding of the needs of our brothers and sisters throughout the world. As part of the Fast you are asked to collect donations for the hours you fast. You will be asked to collect $30 or more in pledges for the cause. The money you raise will be split between World Vision and Catholic Relief Services. The reason we have to fast for 30 hours is because $30 will feed a child for a month in the poverty-stricken parts of the world like Ethiopia and Mongolia. Here is your chance to make a difference. You are asked to bring your pledges to the Fast. We will also be taking a collection after the Mass at Assumption on Saturday night and after the Mass at St. Mary’s on Sunday morning. We will also take donations for the painted pots that we will create during the Fast. What a difference we can make by spending a weekend of standing in solidarity with the hungry people of the world. Please note that you will need to fill out a permission slip/registration form and code of conduct prior to attending this Fast. You may bring it with you on Saturday. If you are from another parish please get a permission slip and code of conduct from your youth minister. We will finish our Fast with the 10 a.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Church on Sunday morning. It will be a youth Mass and we will participate in the offertory and music. Following the Liturgy we will break the Fast with a meal provided by youth ministry’s most wonderful cook, Angela Seubert. Everyone is invited to join us as we gather as a community to provide this humble service of love to the children of the world. Thank you for your dedication in standing with all of those in need. This time will help us all understand what it really means to fast for another. God bless you and we will see you on Sept. 10th. In Christ’s Service, Tri-Parish Youth Coordinator Debbie Chicane You may pick up a registration form at St. Mary’s Parish office or call Debbie at (208) 962-3214.
