on Summit volleyball squad
Summit Academy has 12 girls out for volleyball this year giving them the bare minimum to have both varsity and JV teams. The varsity has 3 seniors returning in Nicole Frei, Courtney Schwartz and Savanah Prigge. The lone junior is Brooke Schumacher. Rachael Frei is a sophomore on the squad and Kayla Schumacher is a freshman on the team. Making up the JV squad are Julia Osborne, a junior, sophomores Megan Rehder, Kayla Duclos, Sarah Chmelik and Nicole Wemhoff and freshman Megan Seubert. Head coach again this year will be Julie Schumacher with Tami Pecarivich as assistant. Summit remains in the 1-A Division 2 subset of the White Pine League and will compete with Nezperce, Highland and Timberline. Highland also includes several Culdesac players but this year all Highland home games in all sports will be at Craigmont. Summit wins opener Traveling to Highland, Summit Academy came through with a rare 3-game sweep of the host Huskies, winning handily 25-16, 25-10 and 25-17 Monday, August 29. Senior Savanah Prigge and frosh Kayla Schumacher led the effort in kills with five each. Nicole Frei contributed seven assists and Brooke Schumacher had nine assists. Courtney Schwartz, Nicole Frei and Nicole Wemhoff had good evenings at the service line, each running off six or more serves at a time. The game was the first for the Patriots this season although last week they had participated in a 3-team jamboree also at Highland. In the preliminary Monday, the Summit JVs also prevailed taking the first and third games in a 3-game match. Eleven of the 12 member squad participated in the action and all were looking forward to the league tri-match Tuesday at Prairie involving Summit, Genesee and Prairie. Thursday of this week they will be traveling to Logos in Moscow.
