A check representing a $1,085,617 grant from the Idaho
Bureau of Homeland Security was presented at NICI last Wednesday, Nov.
2. Shown from left are Brent Reinke, Director of the Idaho Department of
Corrections; Lynn Guyer, warden at NICI; Gen. William Shawver, Idaho Bureau
of Homeland Security and Mark Stephensen, Idaho State Mitigation Officer.
The grant will pay 75% of a $1.4 million project that will retrofit the
facility to reduce the impact of multiple hazards that could affect the
facility, including severe storms and wildfires. Included are generators
to provide electricity to the kitchen and 2 units in case of power outages.
This is the largest grant award made to a partnered state agency in Idaho
by the Bureau of Homeland Security. Click on the photo for a larger view.

Students of the month at Prairie Jr./Sr. High School
are shown. From left are Daun Hoene, Torin Dalgliesh, high school students
of the month and Maria Munger, junior high student of the month.. Daun
Hoene is a good kid, respectful, and most importantly, likes English! Daun
has been very active volunteering in the community with a wide variety
of things. She is always very pleasant and respectful to both adults
and her peers. Torin Dalgliesh is a very well-mannered young man.
He is always pleasant, does his work on time and is extremely helpful when
needed. Maria Munger is an excellent student and always willing to help
out classmates and the staff. She is very helpful and willing to
do whatever asked of her. She is an extremely hard worker who puts
100% into every assignment. She has stayed after school to get extra
help in math, and she helps tutor another student in math outside of school.

Clark Bruno, John Mager, and Mason Dalgiesh are adhering
the last of the vinyl letters onto the glasses boxes for Prairie High School’s
Go Green Group. The Go Green Group is encouraging recycling, not
only in the school but also in the community. Mrs. Lundmark’s graphic
design classes painted and put the graphics on the boxes. The boxes, which
were constructed by Mr. Richardson’s woodshop classes, are to be for recycling
old eyeglasses. These will then be recycled to people who can’t afford
them.
