Mammogram
appointments available
The St. Mary’s Cottonwood Clinic has appointments available for mammograms on Wednesday, December 14 when the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center’s mobile van does its monthly visit. “Around the holidays women often get involved with lots of other important activities, but anyone who is due for their annual exam shouldn’t forget to schedule an appointment,” said Shari Kuther, RN, SMH Clinics Manager. “Some insurances run on a calendar year and many cover the cost of regular mammos. Women may want to check on that and get their mammo before the year ends.” According to Kuther, a woman must have a physician or health care provider order to receive a mammogram. Women can call the Cottonwood clinic to have their provider, regardless of where their provider typically sees them, write that order. Orders can easily be written if and when a mammo is appropriate for the patient. “The American Cancer Society and other groups issue guidelines for mammogram frequency, but it is up to a woman and her provider to discuss and decide on the frequency of mammograms. The decision is made based on family history and other factors,” said Kuther. “It’s important to know that one out of eight American women will experience breast cancer in her lifetime and 80% of those women have no family history. Call our Cottonwood Medical Clinic if you have any questions, 962-3267.” |
