The Library's summer reading program began on Thursday
June 21st with 46 kids signing up. Our theme for the week was owls.
Craig Johnson from the BLM came and brought his stuffed great horned owl.
He gave us lots of information on owls. The adults were impressed
with the good questions and the knowledge the kids have about owls.
We made our own stuffed owls using paper bags. We will meet every
Thursday from 1:30-3:00, so there are still many opportunities to join
in the fun. We welcome any volunteers who would like to read, sing,
help with crafts or just share your talent with the kids. Summer
Reading Pajama Party: In keeping with the summer reading theme "Dream
Big - Read", the Library will hold a pajama party on Thursday July
5th. Wear you pajamas and fuzzy slippers, and bring your stuffed
animal and favorite blanket to the reading program from 1:30-3:00.
Don't worry kids, there will be no time for a nap. Click on the photo for

Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are words
used to explain the acronym STEM. Statistics show that many students
do not pursue STEM careers. With a focus on hands on activities and
inquiry, it is hopeful that more students will move forward in these careers
as the education of students K-12 changes. Teacher from Prairie Schools
spent 4 days engaging in designing solar powered cars, solar windmills,
finding hands on activities to make the binary system of coding understandable,
exploration of volume through inquiry and trial and error, finding apps
for the iPad for use in the science and math courses, and many more activities
were shared. The group talked about a Math and Science night where
families come together to explore and have fun with STEM ideas. More
to come on the Math and Science night. Teachers in attendance were Andrea
Brannan, Colleen Sonnen, Kim Schumacher, Darbie Duclos, Sherry Holthaus
and Rene' Forsmann. Click on the photo for a larger view.
