Father
Reuben Nuxoll celebrates Mass of Thanksgiving
Fr. Reuben Nuxoll, LC (Legionaries of Christ), son of Felix and Sheryl Nuxoll of Cottonwood, celebrated his Mass of Thanksgiving in Cottonwood, at St. Mary’s Church at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 14th. A Mass of Thanksgiving is a Mass offered by a newly ordained priest upon returning to his native town in gratitude for their support of his vocation to the priesthood. He was one of 49 ordained in Rome on Dec 12, 2011 by Cardinal De Paolis from the Vatican. A newly ordained priest may celebrate three Masses of Thanksgiving with the privilege of plenary indulgences after their ordination; this Mass was the last of the three. In a touching gesture of Church unity, Fr. Reuben Nuxoll was joined by and concelebrated with Fr. Paul Wander (pastor of St. Mary’s in Cottonwood), Fr. Caleb Vogel (pastor of St. Augustine’s in Moscow and Diocesan Vocation Director for Recruitment) , Fr. John Gathungu (a priest from Kenya who currently serves in Riggins and McCall), and Fr. Tom Loucks (pastor of Wallace-Kellogg). Also attending were three diocesan seminarians —Mark Uhlenkott, Joseph Lustig, and Christopher Schmidt. After the Mass of Thanksgiving, about 350 relatives and friends attended a barbecue at the Cottonwood Park. All of Father Reuben’s immediate family were home for the celebration. Fr. Reuben returned to his assignment in Santiago, Chile. He is deeply grateful for your love and support and hopes that you will keep him in your prayers. Fr.
