Karel family raising money to fight Crohn's Disease
The Dan and Laurie Karel family will participate in the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America Take Steps Walk on Anthony KarelSaturday 29th in Spokane with the team name of the Karel Crohn's Kids.   Dan and three of their children have Crohn's, as does Dan's mother and several other family members.  Crohn's is a silent disease - and you might not know how much a person can suffer with this disease that can wreak havoc anywhere in the digestive tract.  Laurie and Anthony are accepting pledges, and the entire family will be participating in this nationwide fundraiser.  They are trying to raise $2000 for this event.  Will you help us out?
Below is Anthony's letter to the community:
Help me reach my goal.
I have had Crohn's for a little over a year.  I have been in the hospital several times and I take Remicade treatments. Sometimes I have to take other medication too.  Right now, I have a Picc line in my arm to my heart.  I have to take nutrition this way every night and it is pumped in for 10 hours.  A nurse comes every week and takes blood samples and helps me keep the line clean.  I wish I could play football and go hunting, but right now I can't.
This year, I will be walking in the Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Walk. Take Steps is CCFA's national evening walk and celebration and the nation's largest event dedicated to finding cures for digestive diseases. It is a casual 2-3 mile stroll to raise money for crucial research, bringing us closer to a future free from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Over 1.4 million American adults and children are affected by these digestive diseases. While many suffer in silence, Take Steps brings together this community in a fun and energetic atmosphere, encouraging them to make noise and be heard.
Your donation will help support local patient programs, as well as important research projects. This cause is very important to me and I appreciate your help as we fight for a cure! In addition to donating, you can join me at the event. There will be food, music and kid's activities. The more money we raise, the closer we will be to making life more manageable for patients who live with these diseases every day.
AND, my mom said that any donation $75.00 or more would get a free batch of her homemade caramels!  She will make this and send it to you anytime you want.  Just let us know :-)  Thank you!
Please join me or donate to my efforts to support CCFA in finding a cure!  You can donate online to me at http://online.ccfa.org/goto/anthonykarel  or to my Mom,
Laurie Karel, at http://online.ccfa.org/goto/lauriekarel
We will also accept checks.  Please make them payable to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America  or CCFA.
Thank you for your support.
