Summit
eliminated at District
The Summit Academy Lady Patriots started well but wound up on the losing end of a play-in match against Kendrick at District. They won the first game 25-15 then lost the next 3 games 19-25, 22-25, 19-25 Saturday, Oct. 13 at the LCSC Activity Center. Their serving was on early as Megan Rehder had 2 aces to help Summit take a 4-1 lead and Sarah Chmelik followed with 4 straight aces to make it 9-3. Kendrick was able to fight back within 1 point at 15-14 but Summit dominated the rest of the game. A stuff block by Chmelik put Rehder back on the service line. She had 2 aces and Chmelik added 2 kills for a 20-14 lead. After a Kendrick sideout Chmelik stuffed another Kendrick spike to put herself on the service line. Megan Seubert scored a pair of kills and Chmelik served up 2 aces to end the game. Summit wasn’t able to carry over any first game momentum as they fell behind 0-3 and 2-7 in the second game and never led. They were able to rally to within 1 at 10-11 on an ace by Julia Osborne, but Kendrick then scored the next 4 points and held on to win by 6. Rachael Frei served Summit to a 3-0 lead in game 3 as Rehder scored a kill and Chmelik scored 2 kills. Unfortunately Kendrick came right back to tie it at 3 and again at 4 and then scored the next 4 points for a 4-8 lead. After Summit cut it to 6-8, Kendrick got a 9-point service run from Holli Heinnan for a 6-17 lead. Summit wasn’t ready to quit yet though as Osborne scored a kill for the side out and Rachel Waters put together a 9-point service run of her own to get Summit right back into the game. She had 6 aces in that run while Seubert and Frei each added a kill as Summit cut the lead to 16-17. Unfortunately they couldn’t quite muster even a tie, much less take the lead as Kendrick was able to answer. Summit pulled within 1 again at 18-19 on an ace by Osborne but then missed on a spike attempt. Kendrick got to game point at 19-24. A kill by Osborne and 2 aces by Frei cut the lead to 22-24 but Kendrick was then able to score the kill for the game winner. Facing elimination Summit fell behind 0-3 but fought back to take an 8-6 lead. Kendrick scored 3 straight to retake the lead but Summit tied it on a tip by Seubert. A kill by Kendrick’s Carli Taylor gave them back a lead they never relinquished. Summit kept it close as they pulled within 1 at 10-11, 11-12 and 14-15 but then Kendrick started to edge away and eventually won by 6 points. Chmelik had 13 kills including 2 stuff blocks, 1 assist and 12 aces. Seubert had 11 kills including a stuff, 4 assists and 1 ace. Rehder had 5 kills and 5 aces. Osborne had 5 kills, 1 assist and 3 aces. Frei had 4 kills, 15 assists and 6 aces. Waters had 6 assists and 7 aces. The loss ends the Patriots season at 2-18.
