Local teacher featured in LCSC alumni magazine
Kim Schumacher has been highlighted in the Lewis Clark State Journey Alumni magazine for her contribution to the TESLA program. Kim Schumacher
Kim is an LCSC elementary education graduate, teaching a three/four combination at Prairie Elementary School. Kim’s TESLA journey began six years ago in a summer workshop and since then she has taught science to 2nd 3rd, and 4th graders using the TESLA methods. “I had always done a good job of creating hands-on-science experiments, but felt my students were missing out on communicating what they had learned from their science investigations; TESLA helped me fill in that gap. It’s amazing to hear the student’s science conversations, and then see the conversations become meaningful writing. The students, at even the youngest levels, have no idea how much meaningful writing they are doing as they are thinking about their thinking!”
Kim will be a presenter at the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) Conference in Phoenix, Arizona in December.
