Lady Pirates win pair of league games
The Prairie Lady Pirates picked up a pair of White Pine League victories last week as they held off Clearwater Valley 51-44 at Cottonwood Thursday, Nov. 29 and then won big at Genesee on Saturday, Dec. 1 by a score of 54-25.
Vs. C.V.
In their league opener against C.V. it was a tight first half as the score was tied at 9 after one quarter and at 19 at the half.
Prairie was finally able to edge ahead in the third quarter as they took a 33-29 lead into the final frame.
Both offenses finally opened up a little in the fourth quarter with Prairie pulling away to the final 6 point advantage.
Tanna Schlader and Kayla Schumacher each scored 16 points to lead the Pirates on offense while Kayla and her sister Brooke and Keely Schmidt each had 5 steals defensively as they forced C.V. into 19 turnovers.
Schlader had a double-double as she also pulled down 11 rebounds with Schmidt adding 7 rebounds.
Brooke Schumacher added 7 points while Schmidt and Kendall Schumacher scored 4 each and Taylor Heitman and Shelby VonBargen scored 2 each.
The JV team had no trouble with C.V. as they rolled to a 54-14 win.

Vs. Genesee
At Genesee the Lady Bulldogs had a lot of trouble with Prairie’s pressure defense. Prairie forced 21 first quarter turnovers and allowed Nicole Wemhoff and Shelby VonBargen doubleteam the ball in the Genesee game.Genesee only 4 shot attempts.
Prairie meanwhile was converting many of those turnovers into offense as they had a 14-0 run and built an 18-2 lead. Genesee scored at the end of the quarter to make it 18-4 at the break. They didn’t get any momentum from that though as Prairie opened the second quarter with a 10-2 run enroute to a 30-10 halftime lead.
The intensity dropped off considerably in the third quarter as Prairie forced just 5 turnovers and were actually outscored 8-9 by Genesee. 
The subs came on in the fourth quarter and kicked things back up again as they outscored Genesee 16-6 in the final frame.
Schlader wound up with 11 points, 9 in the first half, to lead the scoring with Kendall Schumacher scoring 10. Kayla Schumacher added 8 points, Heitman 6, VonBargen and Brooke Schumacher 5 each, Schmidt 3 and Callie Mader, Nicole Wemhoff and Tyler Workman 2 each.
Genesee had a 30-32 rebounding edge with Schlader grabbing 6 to lead Prairie. Kendall Schumacher, Schmidt and VonBargen added 5 each.
Schlader had 8 steals and 3 assists while Brooke Schumacher had 6 steals and 2 assists. Kayla Schumacher added5 steals and 2 assists while Mader, Wemhoff and Kendall Schumacher each had 2 assists. Schmidt and Mader added 3 steals each.
Prairie was 25 for 58 from the field, 43%, and 4 for 13 at the line, 31%. Genesee was 11 for 31 from the field, 35%, and 3 for 11 at the line, 27%.
With the wins Prairie improves to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
In a 2-quarter JV game Prairie held off a Genesee rally to win 20-16.
Prairie jumped out to an 18-7 lead after one quarter but scored just 2 points in the second quarter which allowed Genesee to pull within 4 points at the end.
Sky Wilson and Hailey Danly were Prairie’s top scorers with 7 points each with Whitney Sonnen adding 4 points and Leah Holthaus 2.
The JV’s had a 24-23 rebounding edge with Krystin Uhlenkott pulling down 7 rebounds while Sonnen had 6.
Wilson and Sonnen each had 2 steals.
Prairie’s JV’s were 7 for 34 from the field, 21%, and 6 for 9 at the line, 67%. Genesee was 6 for 19 from the field, 32%, and 4 for 12 at the line, 33%.
