Patriots split
The Summit Lady Patriots split their games last week, winning against Grangeville’s JV’s 37-25 at the Prairie Elementary Gym in Cottonwood Tuesday, Dec. 4, and then losing a league game at Nezperce 43-38 on Thursday, Dec. 6. The game writeups below were written Vs. Grangeville The 2nd quarter continued the same way, but this time with Summit up by 2 at the end of the quarter. Seubert scored the most points for Summit with 4 and Fortin for Grangeville with 5. At half time the score was 18 to 16 with Summit outscoring Grangeville. The Bulldogs had a tough 3rd quarter as they did not manage to score a point while Summit managed to score 12 points. Sarah Chmelik and Rehder each scored 4 points during the quarter, with Abi Chmelik and Seubert each with 2. By the end of the 3rd quarter Grangeville was still at 16 and Summit was up to 30. By the end of the 4th quarter, the Bulldogs managed to score 9 points with Fortin scoring her 3rd 3 pointer of the night. Wilson also made 2 baskets adding 4 points to Grangeville’s score. Summit scored 7 points by the end of the fourth quarter. Frei made 3 of her 4 foul shots with Sarah Chmelik and Seubert each scoring 2 points. It was dominated by turnovers by both teams initially but Nezperce managed to take the early lead by good outside shooting. By the end of the first quarter Summit was trailing by 3 making the score 9 to 6. Seubert and Aleesha Arnzen scored big for their teams in the first quarter with Arnzen with 4 for Nezperce and Seubert with 4 for Summit. Summit lead by 13 to 12 in the second quarter and that was the last lead they would have as turnovers continued to plague Summit and Nezperce kept up the pressure. Frei scored 4 of the 5 points scored in the 3rd quarter, but Nezperce managed to score another 13 points bringing their score to 35 and Summit trailing by 17. With 7 minutes to go in the fourth quarter Summit started a comeback with a with a pair of free throws made by Sarah Chmelik and Nezperce followed with an inbound violation allowing Abi Chmelik to make a quick two on the following inbound pass. Nezperce followed with a few baskets of their own to increase their lead to 18 pts. with 4 minutes remaining. However with continual pressure from Summit in the back court a three pointer by Frei from the outside and several baskets by Sarah Chmelik and Frei brought Summit to within 4 points with 26 seconds remaining. That would be all the closer they would get as Carpenter hit a foul shot and Summit had a turnover on the next inbound play to end the game. Summit is now 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in league play. Boys team is 1-1 on the week Like the girls team, the Summit boys basketball team split a pair of games last week beating the Grangeville JV 66-50 on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the Prairie Elementary Gym in Cottonwood and then losing a league game at Nezperce on Thursday, Dec. 6, 47-57. Grangeville cu the lead to 45-40 by the end of 3 quarters but Summit pulled away again in the fourth by outscoring the Bulldogs 21-10. Michael Waters pumped in 28 points to lead all scorers while Josh Lustig had a double-double with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Matthew Schwartz added 15 points while Shane Stubbers scored 6.
