Pirates edge Troy
The Prairie Lady Pirates had to overcome a 7-point deficit after 3 quarters to win 48-47 at Troy last Thursday, January 3. They may have had to shake off some rust from the 2-week break between games as they trailed 8-11 after one quarter and 14-19 at the half. They got some offense going in the third quarter but Troy added 2 more points to the lead as they held a 31-38 lead going into the fourth quarter. Prairie dominated the fourth quarter though, outscoring Troy 17-6 to take a 48-44 lead late in the game. Troy hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer that closed the final margin to just 1 point. Kendall Schumacher led the Pirates in scoring with 13 points and Callie Mader had a season high 11. Tanna Schlader and Brooke Schumacher added 7 points each with Kayla Schumacher and Keely Schmidt adding 5 points each. Prairie took advantage of Troy fouls as they hit 18 of 32 free throws while Troy was just 8 of 12. Madison Yockey, who Prairie defensed very well in the game at Cottonwood, broke loose for 23 points to lead the Trojans. With the win Prairie improves to 12-2 on the season and 6-2 in league play.
