Food drive is a success
Thanks to the support of the students and community, we surpassed our goal of collecting 500 items for the Food and Toiletry Drive last week.  The GEAR UP college-readiness grant requires a yearly service learning project that ties community service into the classroom.  One of our projects this year was this food drive.  Some of Krystal Ellis’ math students tracked daily donations and created graphs and charts that were displayed in the school.
For each item they brought in, students had their name entered in a drawing.  Four lucky high schoolers, Tyler Workman, Austin Sonnen, Laurel Henry, and Kyle Tillinghast, won a ticket to the drive-in movie theater.  Junior high students, Nathan Gimmeson and Sydney Bruner, each won a large pizza at the Hang Out.  A big thank you to Riener’s Grocery and Cottonwood Foods for agreeing to collect donations, and to the generous community members who dropped off food and toiletries.  The items have been delivered to the Cottonwood Food Bank.  If you have questions about the food bank, please contact St. Mary’s Hospital.
