Shaney
Perrin awarded Governor's Cup scholarship
Governor C. L. “Butch” Otter recently announced the 23 recipients of the 2013 Governor’s Cup Scholarships to Idaho colleges and universities. Recipients were chosen from among more than 500 applicants by the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship Fund Inc.’s 18-member board of directors. Selections were based on each applicant’s commitment to public service, academic achievement and community involvement. The award is $3,000 per year, renewable for up to four (4) years, or two to three years for professional-technical programs, depending on the length of the program. A total of 121 students now have been awarded scholarships through the program during Governor Otter’s administration. Included among those recipients is Shaney Perrin of Cottonwood who plans to attend BYU-Idaho in the fall. “I applaud these young men and women for their academic success, their public service and their community involvement. But more than that, I admire them for their determination, hard work and ambition. They truly are deserving of this help to continue their studies and reach their own best potential,” Governor Otter said. “My thanks to the many generous sponsors who make the Governor’s Cup Scholarship program possible, and who share a desire to do all we can to keep Idaho’s best and brightest – the future leaders of our communities and our economy – right here at home.” A reception for this year’s scholarship recipients is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, at 2 p.m. in the Capitol, room EW42. The students will receive certificates and have a photo opportunity with Governor Otter. The 2013 Idaho Governor’s Cup event is scheduled for September 5-7 in Sun Valley. |
