Picnis set for this weekend
Craigmont’s annual celebration of the “marriage” of Ilo and Vollmer will be celebrated this weekend. The June Picnic events start off Friday with a Horseshoe Tournament that begins at 3 p.m. It continues on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Highland cheerleaders will be holding goldfish races at 5 p.m. Friday and the Winchester Gun Club will be running a Bacon Wheel starting at that time as well. At 7 p.m. the judging will be done for Craigmont Hardware’s Ugliest Wall Hanging contest. Events start Saturday at 7 a.m. with the Masons Breakfast at the Masonic Hall. A fun run/walk and the co-ed volleyball tournament both get underway at 8 a.m. The parade is set for 10 a.m. with registration starting at 8 a.m. A Show and Shine will set up at 11 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. is the Ping Pong Ball drop. At noon the American Legion Barbecue starts. From noon to 2:30 there will be Karaoke with Ashley. Kids games start at 12:15 p.m. 3 on 3 Basketball starts at 1 p.m. A logging show will start at 1:30 p.m. The Egg Toss is set for 4:30. The Lion’s Club Burger Eating Contest will be at 5:30. A street dance will start at 7 p.m. with “Blue Heeler” providing music. At 8:30 the June Picnic and Lions Club prize drawings will be held. Sunday at 9 a.m. there will be Frisbee Golf sponsored by the Lions Club. The Lions Club will also have their burger barn set up all 3 days, starting at 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Prairie Bowl to be open during June Picnic Everyone is encouraged to stop by the Prairie Imperial Bowl at Craigmont this Saturday, June 22 during the June Picnic celebration. The bowling alley will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for people to stop in and look over the renovation progress which includes new pinsetting machines and overlays for the alleys. There will be a raffle and a donation jar set up during the open house with funds going toward the renovation expenses. A grand opening after all the work is done is tentatively set for mid-July with free bowling and lessons available from machine installer Russ Hunt, who is a professional bowler. Hopefully everyone will plan to participate once the date is set. |
