Strang
retires from NICI
Mary Strang hired on with the Idaho Department of Correction at North Idaho Correctional Institution (NICI) in June of 1998. She brought with her experience and skills from working within the correctional field in Alaska as well as Washington. Mary quickly earned the reputation as the "go-to" officer when extra projects needed to be done. Mary became well known within the Cottonwood community as the person who would ensure work crews were prepared and knowledgeable in cleaning the community streets and hanging the Christmas decorations and lights at Centennial Park in Cottonwood, as well as numerous cleaning projects throughout the communities of Cottonwood, Grangeville, and other small towns across the Camas Prairie. Mary ensured the Christmas Connection project for the indigent offenders at NICI was well organized and no one was left out. She also ensured the success of the Sharing Tree so that no child in the children's home in Lewiston went without a Christmas present. Mary was promoted to sergeant in 2005. She brought all those skills with her as well as her ability to supervise and streamline the day-to-day operations of the facility. Mary's first major project upon retirement is to prepare for her September wedding to Randy Duman. Mary's last day with NICI was June 19, 2013. She was presented a plaque, a memory book, and a cup by Warden Guyer to recognize her outstanding accomplishments. Mary will be missed at NICI by her staff, supervisors, co-workers, and most importantly, her friends, who were included in the aforementioned list. |
