Nov. 11th& 18th; 6:30–8:30pm Instructor: Kim Kidd-Rodriguez; $30 At: GEMS Learn the ancient technique of capturing nature “in the present moment” by using simple brush strokes with India ink. Students will learn the principles behind sumi-e along with basic brush strokes needed to capture their subjects. We will also create beautiful textured watercolor paper to use as a background in your choice of two sizes. This is a fun, relaxing way to unleash your artistic side and create something beautiful. Kim is a certified art teacher and former docent for the Baltimore Museum of Fine Art. Children ages 12 and older are also welcome! Basic Welding Tu/Th Nov. 12th& 14th; 6-9 pm Instructor: Lindsey Stephens; $60 At:Grangeville High School Have you ever paid someone to fix something you thought you could do yourself? Do you have a welder that you have no idea how to use? Are you interested in learning how to weld basic joints for projects at home and work? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this class is for you. You will learn safety, set up and operation of SMAW (arc) or GMAQ (wirefeed) welding. Welding helmets, gloves and safety glasses are available to borrow. Lindsey is the Ag Science teacher at GHS. Outfit your Own Alaskan River Trip Wed. Nov. 13th; 6:30-9:00pm Instructor: Phil Jahn; $23 At: GEMS Learn how to organize your own, self-guided Alaska “trip of a lifetime” for about a third of the cost of a comparable guided float trip. The course will cover what you need to know about weather, fish runs, equipment, food and menu, clothing, physical and skill requirements, geography, licensing requirements, lodging and transportation. Phil has successfully navigated over 1000 miles of rivers and waterways in remote regions on a self-guided basis with the typical excursion lasting from four to ten days. |
