20 turn out for PHS Girls Basketball
There are 20 girls turned out this year for the Prairie girls basketball team.
Returning starters are senior Keely Schmidt and junior Kayla Schumacher. A big addition to this year’s team is the 2012-13 1-A, Division 1 player of the year Kyndahl Ulmer, a senior who transferred from Kamiah.
Others returning from last year’s varsity squad are seniors Leah Holthaus, Sky Wilson and Nicole Wemhoff. Up from last year’s JV squad are junior Natasha Gimmeson and sophomores Shayla VonBargen, Hailey Danly and Krystin Uhlenkott.
Making up the JV squad this year are Gimmeson and VonBargen along with sophomores Talyss Lustig, Sarah Seubert, Abbie Uhlenkott and Sierra Latimer and freshmen Kylie Tidwell, Chaye Uptmor, Madison Ulmer, Samantha Remacle, Tiffany Sonnen and Salena Davila.
Lori Mader starts her fourth year as head coach with Sarah Walsh again serving as JV coach.
The Pirates should be competitive for a state berth again with Lapwai still a favorite even after losing Natahnee Spencer to graduation. Genesee lost just 1 player to graduation and Clearwater Valley will continue to be competitive. Coach Mader feels Troy could be tough due to their size, even though they got handled by Nezperce Saturday. Potlatch could be an up and coming team while Kamiah lost nearly everyone who played significant minutes on their state championship team a year ago.
Unlike volleyball the third place team at District will get to go to a play-in game against the Wallace-Lakeside winner.
Coach Lori Mader sets up the white shirts to run an opponent’s offense while the dark shirts look to defend it. Shown from left are Sky Wilson, Hailey Danly, Kyndahl Ulmer, Kayla Schumacher, Shayla VonBargen, Krystin Uhlenkott, Keely Schmidt, Leah Holthaus, Nicole Wemhoff and Natasha Gimmeson.
Hailey Danly scores a layup during a full court conditioning and lay-up drill. Also shown are Krystin Uhlenkott and Chaye Uptmor.
